Sri Lankan police have arrested a 25-year-old man for promoting and praising the slain Tamil separatist leader V Prabhakaran on Tik-Tok, reported Daily Mirror. Police said the man detained for promoting terrorism and extremism.
"Promoting terrorists or extremist activities is an offense and the suspect was arrested under the Prevention of Terrorism Act," Police Spokesman DIG Ajith Rohana was quoted as saying by Daily Mirror.
Prabhakaran was the leader of the infamous LTTE who had waged a 25-year-long-brutal insurgency, seeking a separate state for the Tamil majority population mostly living in the country’s north-eastern region. Sri Lanka forces killed him in 2009.
The arrest came at a time when the 46th session of the United Nation Human Rights Council is currently underway. A strong resolution is likely to come up against Sri Lanka over its alleged failure to address war crime cases during the last leg of its civil war.
