Amrullah Saleh, the first vice president of Afghanistan, said peace without dignity would not be acceptable to the people of Afghanistan and we will not compromise with our achievements in intra-Afghan talks, reported TOLOnews. 

Addressing a gathering in Kabul on Thursday, Saleh said the leadership of the country would not be decided by Quetta Shura or any other Shura in an apparent reference to the Taliban. People of the country would decide the leadership of Afghanistan, he added. 

Among Kabul’s political elites, Saleh remained one of the fiercest critics of the Taliban. Saleh, who had run the Afghan spy agency (NDS) for six years between 2004-2010,  has survived around ten attempts on his life. 

Also on Thursday, Saleh took a potshot on Pakistan and the Taliban.  He tweeted, “Mullah Baradar did three things in Karachi. He visited the wounded Taliban terrorists in a government hospital who are there without a visa(s), went to a training facility to inspire terror cadets, and thanked the government of Pakistan for generous support to Talibs to this point.”  

Recently, Hafiz Mansour, a member of the Afghan negotiating team, said that the Taliban’s ideology hasn’t changed since the 90s.

Just days before, a video of the Taliban’s deputy leader Mullah Baradar’s visit to injured Taliban insurgents in Pakistan went viral on social media platforms. A delegation of the Taliban’s political commission is currently in Pakistan to discuss the intra-Afghan peace process with Pakistan’s leadership.
