Amid a continuous surge in COVID-19 cases, Bangladesh has decided to extend restrictions on the movement of people for one more week, reported The Daily Star.

Farhad Hussain, the state minister for public administration, issued a notification notifying the extension. Bangladesh had earlier imposed the two weeks national lockdown to contain the spread of infections.

Earlier, Foreign Minister AK Abdul Momin announced the closing of land borders with India in wake of the deadly second wave there. The flights were already suspended to, and from, India since 14 April.

However, the government had exempted trade from the restrictions.
