An Indian national was killed and two injured when a boiler exploded at a scrap metal smelter in the Karabotuwa area in Kotadeniyawa this morning, police said.

Three employees received burn injuries when the boiler exploded while smelting scrap metal, scattering molten iron. The injured have been admitted to the Meerigama Base Hospital and the Indian national identified as Jarvid has succumbed to his injuries.

The others who were critically injured were transferred to the Wathupitiwela Base Hospital for further treatment.
