A total of 165 Bangladeshi citizens stranded in India for over a month and half returned home this afternoon by a special flight of US-Bangla Airlines. Meanwhile, 168 Indian nationals and one Bhutanese citizen, who were stranded in Bangladesh, left Dhaka today for their respective countries, said Group Captain AHM Touhid-ul Ahsan, director at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport.
Carrying the Indian citizens, a special flight of Air India, left Dhaka at around 1:15pm, while a special flight of Druk Air departed at 9:30am, he added.
"Carrying the Bangladeshi citizens from Chennai, India, a chartered flight of US-Bangla Airlines landed at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport at around 2:45pm," said an official of aviation security at HSIA.
With today's returnees, around 2,327 Bangladeshi nationals, who were stuck in the neighbouring country due to a suspension of the scheduled passenger flights because of the coronavirus pandemic, have returned to the country so far, said officials at HSIA.
Most of the Bangladeshis stranded in India went there for medical treatment.
