The negotiation teams from the Taliban and the Afghan government met for the first time in Doha, Qatar on Wednesday.

Nadar Nadery, a delegate of the Afghan government, said both sides emphasized to provide solutions to remaining
disputed issues as soon as possible, TOLO News reported.

Confirming the development, the Taliban spokesperson, Mohammad  Naeem, said that contact groups from both sides were instructed to resolve the disputes.

The contact groups met earlier on Monday after a gap of two weeks but failed to find a common ground on two of the contentious issues related to procedural rules for engagement.

The Doha talks were to officially begin on September 12 with the hope of ending decades of war in Afghanistan. However, the contact groups of the two sides, which were set up to discuss procedural rules, have held eight meetings.
