At least 11 people, including a district police chief, were wounded on Monday when a car bomb exploded near the district police headquarter in Daman district of Kandahar province in Afghanistan, TOLOnews reported.

The bomb went off around 10:30 in the morning, which targeted the district police headquarters in Kandahar. Jamal Barakzai, the spokesperson of the Kandahar Police chief said the headquarter building was substantially damaged in the blast.

No group has claimed the responsibility for the attack.

The unclaimed attacks, mostly using magnetic IED car bombs, constituted around forty percent of the total civilian causality while the Taliban attacks accounted for 38 percent in the last quarter, a SIGAR report estimated.

The SIGAR report also said that the civilian casualty through unclaimed attacks has increased around 55 percent in comparison to the last quarter while the same casualty increased by 52 percent in the Taliban attacks.

Experts say the Taliban has stopped claiming most of its attacks since they signed the US-Taliban on February 29 this year.

Earlier, the US Department of Defense said, “The Taliban is calibrating its use of violence to harass and undermine the ANDSF and [the Afghan government], but [to] remain at a level it perceives is within the bounds of the agreement, probably to encourage a U.S. troop withdrawal and set favorable conditions for a post-withdrawal Afghanistan.”

Afghan leaders and the EU have continuously been calling for an “immediate ceasefire” but the insurgent group is unlikely to accept it.

US special representative for Afghanistan Reconciliation Zalmay Khalilzad had also said, “The Talibs will not accept a cease-fire, comprehensive and permanent, until there’s a political settlement. And that’s not unprecedented in similar conflicts elsewhere.”
