As the Afghan government fails to properly investigate the recent attacks on Afghan journalists, Reporter Without Borders (RSF) said on Thursday they would approach international courts for the inquiry into the attacks, TOLOnews reported.

The RSF also said the Afghan government doesn’t have the capacity to investigate these cases. In the past two months, around six journalists have been killed in different target killings in the country. Bismillah Atiq Ahmad, a local Afghan Journalist in Ghor province, was the latest to be gunned down by unknown people on 1st January.

“Regarding the murders of the journalists, particularly these five murders, of course, we will file a complaint with the international courts,” Reza Moini, the head of RSF’s Iran-Afghanistan desk, was quoted as saying by the TOLOnews.

It is vital that the Afghan authorities guarantee and reinforce the safety of media personnel, said Moini, adding they would explore all options to end the cycle of violence against the Afghan journalists.

The government has consistently claimed that the Taliban is behind all these attacks on the media personnel. The group, though, denied their involvement. Issuing a statement on Wednesday, the Taliban, condemned the killings, saying the world should know the elements behind these acts.

The Afghan Intelligence (NDS) recently claimed the agency has thwarted three attacks on journalists. The attacks were being planned in Kabul, Khost, and Ghazi provinces. Afghan journalists also blamed the government for its refusal to share information on these attacks.
