A secretary-level Iranian officer posted at the Iranian embassy in Kabul, Afghanistan was injured in what seems like a robbery attempt by armed gunmen in the western part of the capital, reported TOLOnews.  A statement released by the embassy said an employee was attacked by armed gunmen when he was riding in his private car and was shopping in downtown Kabul on Wednesday evening.

The report quoted a surgeon posted at Wazir Akabar Khan hospital as saying, “A patient was brought to us—he was an Iranian citizen—he had wounds on his right arm, a nerve was severed and there were internal and external injuries on his hand.”

The gunmen fired bullets at the window of the car. The Iranian officer sustained several injuries in his right hands.

Ever since the security situation started deteriorating in the Afghan capital, armed robberies became rampant in the city. Several media reports also stated that markets now close early evening due to fear of armed robbers.

In a separate incident, a public prosecutor of Gardez city of Afghanistan was gunned down by unknown armed men in a nearby Khataba village. The incident happened on Thursday night, according to a report in TOLOnews.

No group claimed the responsibility for the attack. The governor of the Gardez province said an inquiry has been launched to nab the killers.

In the past, the Taliban was behind several attacks, targeting prosecutors in the country.
