The Taliban’s refusal of the current constitution is because it seeks a complete collapse of the entire existing constitutional system in Afghanistan,the country’s Second Vice-President Danish Sarwar has contended. According to a report on TOLOnews, Danish said the insurgent group’s refusal is intended to bring down the entire system’s downfall. He also warned against the idea of an interim government.

The interim government, he said, is not just the power transfer from one people to another, it is aimed at bringing down all the three pillars of the state system.

“The Constitution has the capacity to address any plan for peace or a political transformation. The Taliban and their supporters, by opposing the Constitution, in fact, intend the system to collapse,” Danish was quoted as saying by TOLOnews.

Just before the start of the second round of the intra-Afghan talks, the idea to form an interim government has been doing rounds for some time among some members of the Afghan government negotiation team. Afghan President Ashraf Ghani has already rejected the idea.

Some experts believe it is the only possibility where the Taliban might agree on a ceasefire, but others warn against it, calling is an extremely dangerous proposition.

Seventeen years ago the Afghan parliament ratified the Afghan constitution which then took the existing form. Vice President Danish Sarwar was speaking on Tuesday on the occasion of the 17th anniversary of the ratification of the Afghan constitution.
