Dhaka bans political and social gatherings for 10 days

The district administration of Bangladesh’s  capital city Dhaka in has banned any social or political gatherings for the next 10 days during which the country is organizing a mega event celebrating the golden jubilee of independence

The district administration of Bangladesh’s  capital city Dhaka in has banned any social or political gatherings for the next 10 days during which the country is organizing a mega event celebrating the golden jubilee of independence. 

We are discouraging political and social organizations from holding any program during this period, acting commissioner Monirul Islam Dhaka Metropolitan Police

He also asked people to avoid congestion on roads due to state events. Several state guests would participate in various programs during the celebrations. 

"Security will be provided in accordance with the VVIP security protocol at all the events [and venues] where guests will be attending and staying," he said, adding people should keep congestion in mind when they leave home during the 10-day period.

All shops and shopping malls across the country will remain closed on March 17 on the occasion of Bangabandhu's birth centenary.

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Sri Lankan President Nandasena Gotabaya Rajapaksa, Maldives President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih, Nepali President Bidya Devi Bhandari and Bhutanese Prime Minister Lotay Tshering will be visiting Dhaka to participate in the celebrations. 

All flight operations in the country will remain suspended for a short time when the foreign state heads enter the country’s air space.
