While a woman prime minister, Sheikh Hasina of Bangladesh, is spearheading the nation in the COVID-19 vaccination drive, other Bangladeshi women seem less enthusiastic about vaccination in the country as, so far, they constitute just a third of all those who got vaccinated.

By Thursday, a total of 3.58 million people got vaccines, among them only 1.2 million are women. The country is also racing against time to achieve the target of vaccinating around 7 million people that the government had set up last month.

So far they have managed to inoculate a little more than 51 percent of the target. Around 4.7 million people have already registered for vaccines on the government portal designed especially for the vaccination drive. Authorities have set up a target of 6.5 million registration in the first month of the vaccination drive.

Overall, the country is doing fairly well if compared to other nations around the world. Bangladesh, with 3.5 million vaccinated so far, is at the 18th spot around the world. The United States topped the list with over 82 million already inoculated. The UK, with 21 million, is at the second spot.
