A controversy erupted in Sri Lanka on Friday when people in Sri Lanka noticed that Amazon, an online platform, was selling doormats with imprinted Sri Lankan flag on them, reported Colombopage.

The manufacturer of the doormats is learned to be a Chinese firm. The screenshot of the photos from Amazon went viral on social media. The Sri Lankan foreign ministry, taking note of the issue, directed its embassy in Bejing to contact the manufacturer.

Releasing a statement on Friday, the ministry said the matter has also brought to the attention of the Chinese embassy in Colombo. The Sri Lankan embassy in Washington has also been directed to contact Amazon there.

A report in Colombopage noted that several such doormats with Sri Lankan flags on them were available on the platform.
