Opposition parties in Sri Lanka have questioned the manner in which the Sri Lankan government has approved the use of the Chinese vaccines in the island nation, reported Colombopage. 

Manusha Nanayakkara, a member of the opposition SJB party, claimed that the government doesn’t care about the lives of people, adding that the country’s drug regulators were coerced into giving approval to the vaccines brought from China. 

He said the imported Chinese vaccines have not been yet cleared for usage by the World Health Organization (WHO). 

“Four members of the National medicines Regulatory Authority (NMRA), including the Chairman, have been removed from the Authority and the Chinese-made COVID vaccine has been imported to Sri Lanka,” he claimed. 

Earlier, experts suggested the government not to use the Sinopharm vaccines on Sri Lankans.

“When the doctors and officials of the National Medicines Regulatory Authority said they could not approve the Chinese vaccine, the government asked them to resign. That is how four people resigned refusing to approve the vaccine,” Manusha claimed on Sunday.

Opposition parties in Sri Lanka have been organizing seminars to make people aware of the incompetence of the current government led by President Gotabaya Rajapksa.
