The National Movement for a Just Society (NMJS) called on the government to provide humanitarian assistance to Sri Lankans who are stranded and suffering hardships in many foreign countries across the world, as soon as possible.
Former Speaker Karu Jayasuriya, the Chairman of the National Movement for Social Justice, at a press conference held on Thursday (January 14) said about 60,000 Sri Lankans are currently waiting to return to their homeland and the government must not forget that these are the ones who have brought net foreign exchange income to the country in the last few decades.
“We are deeply saddened about the inhumane response of the present regime to innocent Sri Lankans who are suffering in many foreign countries across the world. The question of whether politicians in this country have served the country as well as these Sri Lankan citizens working in a number of countries, including the Middle East, is a very reasonable question to ask,” he said.
