Maldives President Ibrahim Mohammad Solih said his government is focused on stopping and preventing acts of terrorism in the country, Sun news reported.
President Solih said the Maldives is committed to fighting the threat of violent extremism and terrorism in the country. His comment came after the first excise of testing the National Terrorism Response Plan (NTRP).
The National Terrorism Response Plan (NTRP) is a multi-agency plan devised a strategic level response to deal with an act of terrorism. In the first meeting, conducted on Sunday, the government has tested basic protocols and ways to enhance cooperation among different security agencies.
The UK government is also providing assistance in developing the NTPR in the Maldives and its officials had also attended the first meeting. The UK high commissioner in the Maldives also appreciated the Maldives’s openness and willingness to cooperate on the anti-terrorism front.
Cabinet ministers, heads of various security agencies, and members of the national security service had also attended the meeting to set the protocol and provisions for a strategic level response to an act of terrorism.
