The United Kingdom added Maldives to its safe travel list and passengers returning from Maldives will not be needed to serve a mandatory quarantine period in the country, UK’s transport minister Grant Shapps was quoted by Reuters. 

The move could boost the tourism industry in Maldives that has been struggling to pick pace since the pandemic caused a global lockdown all around the world. Maldives’ economy, that relies on tourism revenues, plummeted around half of its pre covid size.
