The Nepal government had last month issued a notification announcing the recruitment of overseas job vacancies in Israel for trained caregivers and other jobs. Over 9000 people applied for the jobs and, among them, 2790 submitted fake documents. 

The Department of Foreign Employment, which is responsible for managing the affairs of overseas workers, recently informed that 9,699 Nepalis applied for various jobs in Israel under a government-to-government agreement, but 2,790 of them got rejected after finding they had submitted fake documents.

The government began the process of recruitment after the Israeli government communicated vacancies for 1400 different trained and semitrained jobs. Since the agreement is a government-to-government deal, private employment agencies are barred from the recruitment process. 

Remittances contribute almost 25 percent of GDP to the country’s economy and the successive government tried diversifying job destination countries. However, the number of outgoing workers reduced significantly because of various restrictions and travel bans placed in the wake of the pandemic.

Deepak Kaphle, the director-general of the department informed that only 7,009 people out of over 9000 were allowed to take the exams for selection, reported Nepal’s Onlinekhabar portal. After the screening and interview process, only 1400 people will be selected.
