Nepal mandates service fee from Qatari employers to its recruiting agencies

The Nepal government has issued a provision for Qatari employers who wish to hire Nepali workers where they would have to commit to paying a certain charge as a service fee to local recruiting agencies in Nepal.
A report in The Kathmandu Post says that the Nepali mission in Qatar has informed Qatari employers regarding the change in rules. The new rule is aimed at strictly enforcing the ‘Free Visa, Free Ticket” agreement for Nepali workers that Nepal and Qatar had signed a few years back.
“This is the right decision that the Nepali mission wants to know how much these employers are paying to Nepal-based recruiting agencies “This will make the whole process transparent,” Tikamani Neaupani, the spokesperson of the Department of Foreign Employment in Nepal was quoted as saying by The Kathmandu Post.
The move would also benefit job seekers and recruiting agencies. Presently, a foreign job seeker often ends up paying a lot more than the legally prescribed charge, NPR 10,000, to local recruiting agencies. On the other hand, agency operators had long been complaining that NPR 10,000 was enough for their services: the reason they overcharge the job seekers.
Furthermore, the new rule would also enable the Nepali authorities to track the payments made to local agencies.
