Pakistan has so far vaccinated over a million people, the country’s planning minister Asad Omar informed on Tuesday. Around 2 million have already registered themselves for vaccines in the country.

Taking to Twitter, Omar said, “More than 76000 vaccinations were carried out yesterday. Please register if you are 50 plus.” Around 600,000 health workers and 1.4 million people over 50 plus age have registered for vaccination, he said.

Authorities in Pakistan have recently reimposed significant restrictions amid rising Covid-19 cases.

Omar highlighted the effects of these restrictions: “Increased restrictions, broader lockdowns & stronger SOPs enforcement starting to have effects. Initial signs of positivity slowing. However, due to the momentum of the last 2 weeks patients on critical care & mortality will stay at high levels for some time. Please follow sop's & be safe” he wrote on Twitter.

On Tuesday, the National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC)- the body responsible for managing the Covid-19 crisis in Pakistan- further suspended classes of grade 1 to grade 8 in areas affected by the Covid-19 till 18 April.

However, it allowed students of higher grades to attend in-person classes to complete the curriculum. Shafqat Mahmood, Pakistan’s education minister, informed that universities in affected districts would remain closed and classes would be shifted to online mode.
