The Pakistan government has been investigating various posts and doctored videos that had been widely shared on social media last week to defame the famous Aurat March, reported Dawn. 

Federal Minister for Religious Affairs Noorul Haq Qadri said on Sunday the government was investigating these posts and would expose the culprits. Cases would be registered against those who had photoshopped these videos and pictures, he added. 

On 8 March, women activists in the country had organized Aurat March in various parts. Many events, including rallies, were planned as part of the march. Soon after the event, doctored videos and photos, showing them raising blasphemous slogans, had surfaced online. These posts, despite the clarification from the Aurat March, had been widely shared on various social media platforms. 

Organizers said these videos were edited in the wrong sense to defame the movement. 

Last week, people linked to various religious organizations had also blocked some of the key highways passing through the capital, Islamabad, demanding actions against the organizers of the march. 

The blasphemous slogans can’t be tolerated at any cost in the country, the minister claimed, adding authorities are looking into the matter to get to the bottom of these materials. 

Since 2018, the Aurat March has become an annual event in Pakistan. And, it hasn’t gone down well with some conservative religious-political groups opposed to the rights and empowerment of women.
