New trade figures show record lower Afghanistan imports from Pakistan of goods plunging by 44 percent year on year during first half of this year, because of the pandemic lockdowns and closure of trade gates by Pakistan.

“Afghanistan’s imports from Pakistan dropped drastically, all due to Pakistan shuttering its gates which happened frequently since March because of coronavirus fears,” said deputy head of Afghanistan’s Chambers of Commerce and Industry,Younis Momand.

According to Pakistani media reports, Islamabad has seen a significant reduction in its exports to foreign countries during covid-19 crisis.
