India has signed a MoU with Nepal to fund the reconstruction and conservation of three more cultural heritage sites that were damaged in the 2015 devastating earthquake in the Himalayan nation.
Three projects are Jestha Varna Mahavihara in Lalitpur, Sulighyang Gumba, and Shermathang Gumba located in Sindhupalchowk district of Nepal. In 2017, India has decided to fund the reconstruction and restoration of 28 sites, of cultural and historical importance, that were damaged in the 2015 earthquake.
The three projects will cost around $2.11 million, a statement from the Indian embassy in Kathmandu said.
“India remains committed to continuing its development partnership with Nepal which is long-standing, unwavering, unmatched, and multidimensional in nature, as per the priorities of Government of Nepal,” the embassy said in the statement.
The reconstruction of the famous Seto Machhindranath Temple, and the sanitation and potable water facilities in the Pashupatinath Temple were among the famous projects that India has funded under its grant assistance.
Earlier, India also funded the construction of nearly 50,000 houses that were damaged in the earthquake.
