Malaysia withdraws travel restriction on workers

Malaysia has removed travel restrictions on fully vaccinated workers from five South Asian nations - Sri Lanka, India, Pakistan, Bangladesh and Nepal. However, inbound passengers from these countries will be subject to mandatory quarantine. The travelers must obtain entry approval from MyTravelPass or MyEntryImmigration portal of the Immigration Department of Malaysia,

This is only allowed for Malaysian permanent residents, long-term pass holders, business travelers and investors, according to Malaysian media reports.

The travelers must obtain a negative RT-PCR test three days before departure and will be subject to mandatory quarantine.

Immigration Department Director-General Datuk Khairul Dzaimee Daud told Malaysian media that although the workers are allowed to come to the country, they must comply with the conditions as spelled out in MyTravelPass.

” They can enter to work in Malaysia as long as they follow all the conditions set,” Berita Harian reported.

The foreigners who can apply in MyTravelPass are PR status holders, individuals who apply through employers for the Foreign Maid (PRA) and Temporary Working Visit Pass (PLKS) categories.

Other employers and foreigners are directed to apply through the MyTravelPass website.

The director had highlighted that employers and foreigners have to go through several processes before being allowed entry to the country, ECONOMYNEXT reported.

Malaysia imposed travel restrictions in May on Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Nepal and Bangladesh with the increase in COVID-19 delta variant cases in those countries.

A few other countries have also relaxed or removed travel restrictions on Sri Lanka in the past week, including Japan, the United Kingdom and the Philippines.
