Stressing on the importance of education, Sri Lankan Prime Minister Mahindra Rajapakshe said the education of children can’t be “delayed or taken back”, adding his government has started resuming educational activities across the country.

“Although the world was engulfed in pandemic fears, we began the process of restoring the school system for the future of our children. Although some say different things, we can’t allow our children’s education to be delayed or taken back,” Rajapakshe was quoted as saying by Colombo page during his address on the 10th anniversary of Mahindra Rajapakshe college in Sri Lanka.

While taking a note of reduced attendance in schools, he said, in the time like these, parents have a great role to play and encourage their children to attend schools with taking all safety measure. He said it is important to keep school activities as normal as possible.

The prime minister also stressed the importance of future generations well versed in the country’s social and cultural environment, adding it would enable them to take on future challenges.

“It is my belief that it should be the real goal in a changing world,” he added.
