In a grim situation, India added 1,52,879 fresh Covid infections in the last 24 hours, taking the overall tally to over 13.3 million cases.

During this period, 839 deaths were recorded pushing the total fatality count to 1.69 lakh.

This is the fifth consecutive day that India has recorded more than 1 lakh (100,000) cases in a day.

The new cases reported on Sunday are five per cent higher than Saturday when the country recorded 1,45,384  cases.

The recovery rate further dropped to 90.44 per cent, according to the Union Health Ministry statement.

Till Sunday morning, India's cumulative vaccination coverage exceeds 100 million. 

However, several states like Punjab, Rajasthan and Maharashtra have also warned about fast-depleting coronavirus vaccine stocks.
