Amid growing demand for tourism in the Maldives from Gulf nations, Emirates airline has now increased its frequency to four flights in a day to the Maldives, informed the Maldives Airport Company Limited (MACL) in a tweet.
This is the second time in the week that the airline increases its flight numbers owing to the demand push. Earlier on Monday, the airline had increased its daily flight frequency to three from earlier two flights in a day.
Emirates was the first airline that started operating to the Maldives since the country reopened on July 15.
The tourism industry in the Maldives has shown a remarkable recovery amid the pandemic. MACL on Friday also informed that another airline, Air France, would also start its operations to the Maldives from 19 December. The airline will operate three flights in a week to Velena International Airport in the Maldives.
With Air France, the total number of airlines operating to the Maldives increased to 21. Since its reopening in July, the archipelago has received more than 125,000 tourists. In 2020, total tourist footfall has already crossed 500,000.
After the pandemic, the Maldives’ government has gone to a greater length in promoting the tourism industry in the country. And as a result, the country was awarded the World-leading destination 2020 for tourism.
