Nepal’s central bank has asked its citizens who are holding the fourth series of Qatari banknotes to exchange the bills before 10 May as the series would become illegal and indemnified currency from 1 July , 2021.
Issuing a notice on Tuesday, Nepal Rastra Bank’s banking department has said notes can be exchanged at its provincial offices, licensed banks and financial institutions, and money exchangers across the country.
This comes after Qatar’s central bank last year December had announced withdrawing the old series notes.
Qatar is one of the top destinations for Nepali migrant workers. However, the number of people going to Qatar dipped following the pandemic. Currently, the United Arab Emirates [52,085], Saudi Arabia [39,279] and Malaysia [39,167] are top destination for Nepalis.
