Bhutan Prime Minister Lotay Tshering is in Bangladesh, joining many other South Asian leaders joining the golden jubilee celebration of Bangladesh’s independence.

Bangladesh Foreign Minister AK Abdul Momin held a meeting with the visiting prime minister and discussed the areas where the two nations could enhance cooperation. Emphasizing the improved air connectivity, he said the two nations could reap economic benefits from it.

There is no clarification as of now if the two countries would sign any agreement. “The Bhutanese prime minister came to join his friends and the people of Bangladesh in the celebrations of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman’s birth centenary and Bangladesh’s golden jubilee of independence,” Momin said in response to a question if two nations would sign an agreement.

Interestingly, Lotay Tshering, a surgeon by profession, had received his medical education in Bangladesh. He is holding talks with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

The two nations enjoy trade relations that have expanded in recent years due to increased connectivity. India permitted Bhutan to use both its waterways and land routes in order to enhance trade between them.
