Bangladesh’s bid for the post of WHO’s regional executive director got a booster when India supported the case of its eastern neighbor, said a report on bdnews24.com.
India conveyed its decision to Bangladesh in a meeting that took place on Thursday between Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and Indian High Commissioner Vikram Kumar Deraiswami, informed Hasan Jahid Tusher, deputy press secretary to Bangladesh prime minister.
They have also discussed the issue of hardships being faced by Bangladeshis in getting Indian visa. In the meeting, India also assured its support and cooperation to Bangladesh in increasing its vaccine distribution capacity to 30 million.
Early reports also indicated that Bangladesh could be the first country to get COVID vaccines from India.
In the meeting, Hasina also remembered the role India played in the Bangladesh Liberation War in 1971 and the subsequent support and cooperation it extended to rebuilding the war-ravaged country.
