Authorities in Nepal have barred foreigners, including Indians, from crossing over to Nepal from the Jhapa border crossing, reported the Kathmandu Post. Nepalis, too, aren’t allowed to cross over to India from the border point.

The move came after several Indians were reportedly crossing over to Nepal to catch international flights to avoid the flight ban imposed on India after it recorded an unprecedented surge in cases.

A few days earlier, some Indian nationals had entered Nepal carrying fake RT-PCR test reports allegedly prepared by some private clinics in India,” Sunil Dahal, a police officer in Jhapa district, was quoted as saying by The Kathmandu Post.

Shrawan Kumar Timsina, the chief district officer, informed, “Even those foreign travelers with Covid-19 negative test reports won’t be allowed entry. Nepalis too will be barred from entering India.”

Earlier on Tuesday, the Indian Embassy in Kathmandu issued an advisory asking Indians not to travel to Kathmandu just to catch flights from there. On the same day, Nepal recorded the biggest surge in daily cases in recent months. A total of 4364 people tested positive for the Covid-19.

Kathmandu remains the worst affected region. Other areas, with many people returning from India, are also reporting a surge in cases. The government has imposed major restrictions for 15 days in Kathmandu Valley.
