Even as stalemate on the borer continues, Chinese media has upped the ante announcing that the country could build up to 60 GW of hydropower capacity on a section of the Brahmaputra, known in China as Yarlung Tsangpo. The study examines conflicting views on the ‘water wars’ narrative with some analysts saying India need not be unduly alarmed; others express strategic concerns; and in respect to Tibet, the probable threat of a mass influx of Chinese migrants into the Kongpo region.
