Colombo: The Ministry of Education plans to limit the class size to 25 students per classroom when the schools reopen which will be proceeded in four stages.

The Secretary of the Education Ministry Ranjith Chandrasekara said that only about 1000 schools in the country where there are more students in classrooms are given instructions to follow this procedure.

According to the Education Ministry’s four-stage plan, the schools will be opened for students from the 6th of July and steps have been taken to start school for students in Grades 5, 11 and 13 first.

The Secretary to the Ministry of Education Ranjith Chandrasekara said that the steps to be taken to start schools and instructions have been sent to the principals of the respective schools.

Meanwhile, Teachers' Union have said that they have received reports of collecting money from teachers allegedly to meet the expenses needed to obtain required facilities when opening schools under health guidelines.

In response to a query on the allegations, the Secretary said that the Ministry of Education has provided all necessary financial provisions and that action will be taken against the principals who are collecting such funds.
