U.S. Secretary of State Michael R. Pompeo arrived in Colombo, Sri Lanka today for a two-day visit on October 27-28, 2020 following his visit to New Delhi, India.

During the visit to Colombo, the Secretary of State will meet with President Gotabaya Rajapaksa and Foreign Minister Dinesh Gunawardena and highlight Sri Lanka’s importance as an Indo-Pacific partner on security and economic issues, the Department of State said in a statement Tuesday.

Mr. Pompeo will also emphasize the United States’ commitment to Sri Lanka’s sovereignty and encourage progress on governance and reconciliation priorities, the statement added.
