Sri Lanka President Gotabhaya Rajapaksa Friday inaugurated the ‘Husma Dena Thuru’ (Trees that give breath) National Tree Planting Program to plant two million saplings.
The new afforestation project planned by the Ministry of Environment expects to plant 2 million saplings across the country and increase the country’s forest-cover by 30 percent as set out in the President’s Vistas of Prosperity policy statement.
Trees are planted to suit the area, with the aim of reducing the percentage of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere and increasing the volume of oxygen.
