Colombo (ECONOMYNEXT): The United States has given 1.3 millon US dollars to help Sri Lanka help protect healthcare workers in the fight against Coronavirus and more support will be given to boost laboratory testing, the US embassy in Colombo said.

“Through even the most difficult times, Americans and Sri Lankans support one another as partners and friends,” U S Ambassador to Sri Lanka Alaina B Teplitz said in a statement.

“This donation reflects our enduring relationship, resilient even in the face of this global pandemic. As in the past, we are proud to provide critical support to help Sri Lanka combat COVID-19.”

US will also help Sri Lanka expand Covid-19 testing.

Sri Lanka is engaged in a running battle to identity infected persons and their contacts, in a bid to stamp out widespread community transmission of the disease.

Sri Lanka has so far confirmed 189 Coronavirus cases and are actively tracing contacts. (Colombo/Apr09/2020)
