“Schools can be kept closed because of the challenge. However, we accepted the challenge to open schools ensuring the health security of the children,” said Sri Lanka's Minister of Education, Prof. GL Peiris.

Minister of Education said according to the World Health Organization (WHO) it will take another two-and-a-half years for the risk of the Covid-19 challenge to be fully eliminated, and it would be "impractical" to suspend schooling for children in such a situation.

The Minister expressed these views at an event held at the Ministry of Education today (24) to recognize the ten students who obtained the highest marks in the Grade Five Scholarship Examination held in the midst of the Covid challenge and for the provision of Smart Boards to the schools where they are studying with the sponsorship of E -wis.
