Bangladesh reported 2,709 new COVID-19 cases on Saturday, taking the total to exceed 200,000, with nearly 2,600 deaths.

"A total of 2,709 fresh COVID-19 cases were reported in the last 24 hours, taking the nationwide tally to 202,066," a senior Health Ministry official, Nasima Sultana, said in a briefing, Xinhua reported.

According to the official, 10,923 samples were tested in the last 24 hours in labs across the country.

She said that "34 deaths were reported in the last 24 hours across Bangladesh and total fatalities stood at 2,581".

According to the official, the COVID-19 fatality rate in Bangladesh is now 1.28 per cent.

Also she said that the current recovery rate is 54.49 per cent in the country.

The total number of recovered patients in the country now stands at 110,098 including 1,373 on Saturday, said Sultana.

Bangladesh recorded highest 4,019 cases in a 24-hour period on July 2.

And the country reported the highest 64 deaths of COVID-19 patients in a day on June 30.(IANS)
