Authorities in Bangladesh have charged 7300 people in connection with the violence, mostly led by hardliner Islamists groups, that had claimed 14 lives and injured many since Friday in the country, reported Dhaka Tribune.

Violence and arson by Islamists groups, in opposition to the Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Bangladesh visit, raged for three days and destroyed government and private properties.

Capital Dhaka, and the eastern cities of Brahmanbaria, and Sylhet remained the worst affected by the violence, which was mostly led by Hefazat-e-Islam, a fundamentalist Islamist group of Bangladesh.

In Dhaka, around 10 members of security forces, and many journalists were also injured. While in Brahmanbaria, where several Hindu temples were also attacked, police have so far arrested 14 people, informed Anisur Rahman, the superintendent of Brahmanbaria police.

The Office of Police Superintendent and many police outposts were also attacked, and the complaints have been registered against around 4000-5000 unnamed persons, according to a report in Dhaka Tribune.

In Sylhet, another affected city, around 200 leaders and activists of Islamist groups have been named in police complaints.

The violence and clashes spread across the country on Sunday as Modi concluded his visit Saturday evening last week. To deal with the protests, the government deployed personnel of Border Guards Bangladesh, a paramilitary force mainly responsible for protecting the country’s borders.
