Port Trade Unions once again protested against attempts to lease the East Container Terminal to an Indian Company.

All Port Trade Unions gathered at the Colombo Port this afternoon and marched in protest.

Trade Unions allege Minister Johnston Fernando who approved the importation of gantry cranes is now attempting the sell the gantry cranes by seeking approval from the cabinet ministers.

They claim if the project is given the green light to operate the Sri Lanka Ports Authority could provide an income of 50 Billion Rupees to the treasury per annum.

The trade unions voiced in unison they were protesting against the attempt to move a cabinet paper to do away with the project.
