The envoy in an extensive discussion with the minister said the coronavirus epidemic has witnessed the profound friendship between China and Sri Lanka that supported each other overcoming the difficulties.
At present, the epidemic situation in China and Sri Lanka has been effectively controlled, and the resumption of production and the resumption of classes in schools have started, he noted.
The Chinese Embassy donated masks to the Ministry of Education and some universities, hoping to provide additional safety and security for the relevant staff to resume work and return to college.
China is willing to continue to provide support for the restoration of economic and social life in Sri Lanka and actively promote the development of cooperation between China and Sri Lanka in the field of higher education, the envoy said.
Minister Gunawardena thanked the Chinese embassy for the donation, and said the Chinese government and all sectors of society have provided Sri Lanka with much-needed anti-epidemic materials and made positive contributions to the effective control of the epidemic situation.
Gunawardena also expressed sincere gratitude to the Chinese government for supporting Sri Lanka’s higher education through scholarships and other projects for a long time, and hopes that the two countries will continue to strengthen cooperation in the field of education in the future to help the development of higher education in Sri Lanka.
