Japan has given its consent to award Rs. 1.36 Billion to Sri Lanka as a non-project grant scheme for the supply of medical equipment required to combat COVID-19.

Joint Cabinet Spokesperson Minister (Dr.) Bandula Gunawardena speaking on Thursday said the Finance Secretary was vested with the power to sign the relevant documentation for 800 Million Yen with the Japanese Government.

He said the Cabinet of Ministers approved the proposal to obtain the said grants as well as to sign the agreements pertaining to it.

A statement from the Government Information Department noted medical equipment such as MRI scanners, CT Scanners, Bedside X-Ray Systems, Central Monitors, Bedside Monitors, and Defibrillators would be procured.
