Dr. Abdullah Abdullah, the chairman of the High Council for National Reconciliation (HCNR), on Tuesday, called the intra-Afghan negotiation “a first-time realistic opportunity for peace,” Arian news reported.

Speaking after holding a meeting of the High Council of National Reconciliation, he said it is the first time that the real opportunity for peace has come, but it is up to both sides to seize it.

Abdullah took the stock of progress in the Doha talks and discussed possible agendas for the next phase of negotiations with the Taliban. “Today the delegations have group consultations and very serious discussions will start tomorrow.” Abdullah was quoted as saying by Arian news on Tuesday morning.

After the breakthrough in the Doha talks, HCNR held its first leadership committee meeting on Saturday.

In the last weeks, negotiations in Doha has picked up the pace; both sides have been meeting each other every day since Saturday to discuss agendas for the next phase of the talks.

Nearly after the three months, last week both sides had announced the breakthrough over the procedural framework for the negotiations.

The Taliban’s Doha office spokesperson Dr. Mohammad Naeem Wardak said on Monday that the meetings were preliminary and the discussion around agendas needed more time.
