People in Arghandab district of Kandahar province claimed that the US strikes against the Taliban killed at least 11 civilians, including children and women, according to a report on TOLOnews.
Responding to the allegations, the Afghan defense ministry said they were aware of reports of civilian casualties and the matter would be investigated. The Taliban’s spokesperson on Sunday also alleged that the US strikes have killed several children in the areas.
Though the Kandahar police chief provided a different account of the incident. He said civilian casualties happened when the bombs planted by the Taliban on the roads exploded.
Former Afghan President Hamid Karzai condemned the airstrikes by foreign forces which resulted in civilian casualties. The return of peace is the only way to end the suffering of the Afghan people, he said in a tweet.
