At least eight people died and another 12 injured in a riot that broke out Wednesday evening in the western city of Herat in Afghanistan, officials quoted by Tolonews said. 

Mohammad Rafiq Shirzai, the spokesperson for the provincial public health directorate, said the riot began when police started clearing some partition, created by the prisoner, in block 5, which left eight people dead.  

Tolonews, quoting sources, reported the block 5 was torched and the riot continued until midnight.
