As Covid-19 infections and deaths remain unchecked in the country, the Bangladeshi government may have to impose a strict full lockdown from April 14, reported the Daily Times. According to a report, Obaidul Quader, the country’s minister for road transport and bridges, said on Thursday the government was mulling over the proposal. Despite announcing a full lockdown this week, the government has provided significant exemptions to keep the economy afloat. 

However, the current lockdown turned out ineffective as most people were seen defying restrictions. The Covid-19 situation in the country has not shown any sign of improvement. 

"Coronavirus situation in the country has taken a terrible turn, the infection and death rates are rising in leaps and bounds,” Quader was quoted as saying by the Daily Mirror. He also added that people’s indifference and negligence have not changed. 

All government, semi-government and private organizations, except for emergency service providers, will be closed during the weeklong lockdown, Farhad Hossain, the minister for public administration, was quoted as saying by the bdnews24. 

Authorities are unlikely to consider giving exemption to even factories and manufacturing units in the country this time. “The spread of coronavirus infections has become severe in Bangladesh with the cases and the death toll surging manifold,” Quader said.
