Although the mortality rate due to the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) is showing a declining trend in Chittagong, the number of cases has crossed the 21,000 mark in the last 24 hours.

Public health specialists have warned against the lackadaisical attitude of people in getting tested or staying away from tests.

Dr Shakeel Ahmed, in-charge of the microbiology laboratory at the Bangladesh Institute of Tropical and Infectious Diseases (BITID), told Dhaka Tribune, “During the onslaught of COVID-19 in the country, we used to test 300-400 samples each day. But now we are testing only 100-150 samples,” said Dr Ahmed.
