For the first time in the last four months, Nepal reported 1,015 new cases of coronavirus infections on Sunday from across the country, taking the total nationwide infection count to 284,673 according to The Himalayan Times.

Last year on 11 December, the country recorded a peak of 1044 infections;  thereafter the cases remained below 1000. Of the newly infected, 413 are females and 602 are males. Of the total cases that surfaced on Sunday, Kathmandu district holds the highest number of new infections, 326 cases.

Likewise, 262 people are reported to have recovered in the past 24 hours, according to data provided by the country’s health ministry. Around 275,300 individuals have recovered so far from the novel coronavirus infection. The recovery rate from the disease stands at 96.7 percent.

The active Covid-19 case count currently stands at 6,290. The nationwide death toll has reached 3,083 with eight Covid-related fatalities reported Sunday.

Cases are expected to rise in the coming days as Nepali migrants workers are returning in large numbers from India where cases have increased dramatically. The government has already ordered the administration in border districts to maintain proper quarantine facilities for returnees.
