The rival faction of the ruling Nepal Communist Party, led by the Dahal- Madhav Nepal,  have issued a show-cause to notice to Nepal’s Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli asking him to explain why should he not be expelled from the NCP.

According to a report in The Himalayan Times, the Dahal-Nepal faction gave Oli three days time to respond to notice, failing to which the party would proceed to cancel his primary party membership.

The notice asked him to explain why he acted in violation of the constitution and defied the party rules, policies, and statue. The notice was personally delivered by a standing committee member, Surendra Prasad Pandey, to the official residence of the prime minister in Baluwater road in Kathmandu.

The notice came soon after other parties, Nepali Congress and Janta Samajwadi Party-Nepal, asked the Dahal faction to join hands for protesting against the unconstitutional move of the house dissolution by Oli. The parties, however, sought clarification from the Dahal Nepal faction if the prime minister is still in the party.

The ruling NCP suffered a split when Prime Minister Oli led Cabinet on 20 December last year unilaterally dissolved the House of Representatives. Both factions, each led by Dahal-Nepal and Oli, have been holding separate meetings of the party and committees thereafter.

However, the Election Commission of Nepal is yet to take a call on the split within the ruling party.

Currently, the Supreme Court of Nepal is hearing 22 petitions challenging the decision of the house dissolution.
