Chisel Away
Does too much joy a sadness bring
Must there be little bits of everything,
Does too much joy a sadness bring
Must there be little bits of everything,
Is Life no more than a potpourri
The Nightingale and whatever we can sing.
Green around is good for all
The exhaling trees as they stand tall,
The breathing us that won’t survive
If that lovely tree were to ever fall.
Homilies , homilies and lip service
Sermons for the believing novice,
Walls erected for personal safety
Blind to the truth, unseen the crevice,
Within the walls that we create
The gossamer of Hope, the reality of hate,
The Oneness of Man lies buried somewhere Tell me,
O fellow-men, what is our Fate.
Do we just resign to it?
Live in darkness if my path’s not lit?
Or, can I, must I, strive for better
And, chisel away bit by little bit?
Chisel away, a little at a time
Jack and Jill, that lovely rhyme,
Remember, fall you will but stand you must
Without that effort, there is no climb.
